Satoshi Nakamoto in question – is it Elon Musk, Dorian Nakamoto, or someone else?
It was almost a decade ago when the first cryptocurrency network appeared. Satoshi Nakamoto, the author of Bitcoin, mined the first block, which now is known as the block zero. It happened on January 3rd, 2009, and it started one of the biggest revolutions in the network technology.
Although the popularity of Bitcoin is rapidly growing year after year, the mystery of Satoshi Nakamoto still hasn’t been revealed. No one knows what identity hides behind this nickname, even if we take into account the fact that the original white paper was published by Satoshi in October 2008.
Numerous journalists tried to figure out the person or the group of people that hide behind the top cryptocurrency we are now enjoying. Sadly, the true identity of someone’s known as Satoshi is still hidden. Although he claimed to be a middle-age man from Japan, the way he spelled several words, like for example “colour” or “optimise” could suggest that instead, he was of the British origin (or at least one of its colonies). What is more, it is interesting to notice that in spite of claiming to be Japanese, he has never posted on the Bitcoin forum during daytime in Japan.
Although there has been a number of potential personas hiding behind this identity, none of them were even close to be confirmed. Down below we prepared for you a list of several candidates that could, potentially, be Satoshi Nakamoto.
It is difficult to indicate the first time someone was trying to find information regarding Satoshi, but one of the most popular ones goes was back to 2011 and it concerns a Finnish professor, who is 38 years old.
The whole story started with journalist Joshua Davis, who was figuring out who Satoshi really is. At that time, he found Michael Clear, a young student from university in Dublin. He studied cryptography and at the same time worked in one of the Irish banks, because he wanted to improve software he invented and at the same time he was working on an academic paper. This graduate denied that his alter ego would be Satoshi Nakamoto. However, he pointed out that there is a Finnish man, who might be “solid fit for Nakamoto”. In this way Joshua learned about Vili Lehdonvirta.
Unfortunately, even when journalist asked him whether he is Satoshi or not, he refused and explained that person responsible for creating bitcoin must have been a highly experienced and very skilful, and it is not him.
Two years later, in 2013 that is, American IT specialist, who at the same time is sociologist and philosopher suggested that one of the brightest mathematics minds in Japan could hide behind Satoshi’s nickname. Ted Nelson told us that, according to him, it could be Shinichi Mochizuki. Although Ted’s evidence were mostly circumstantial, there people still believed it could be Japanese mathematician due to his solution to ABC Conjecture. Still, it is said that Mochizuki said that he is not the man.
If we take a look at another source, namely Newsweek, we can see that there has been other people that could potentially be Satoshi Nakamoto. One of them is Dorian Nakamoto who is rather mysterious figure and to this date, not many people knew about existence. Dorian Nakamoto is an engineer who worked on many classified defence projects in the United States. What is more, he also worked as computer engineer in the area of technology and financial data. Interestingly, in the interview he gave Newsweek journalist, Leah McGrath Goodman that is, he stated that he is “no longer involved in that”. Although the answer seems to be quite straightforward, later on it turned out that he was thinking about some of the works back when he worked for military.
In December 2013, Skye Grey, a researcher who work conducted stylometric analysis. As a result of the analysis, Skye indicated Nick Szabo as a potential Satoshi Nakamoto. He is a 55-year old American of Hungarian descent, who is well known for being the creator of BitGold, a predecessor for legendary Bitcoin. To put it simply, Skye Grey applied analysis that focused on searching unusual patterns and turns of phrase. What is more, Nick Szabo is also believed to be Satoshi by other sources. One of them is Dominic Frisby. When he was interviewed in Russia Today, he said that the only person capable of understanding it all and possessing such tremendous knowledge is Nick Szabo. Obviously, once the man in question heard about the interview, he denied being Nakamoto.
Although it is one of the most absurd ideas in the world, it is still believed that Elon Musk is responsible for launching one of the most successful finances in recent years. Noteworthy is the fact that Elon Musk has indeed some background in economics. Let’s not forget about experience he gained at production-level software. A person responsible for such claim is Sahil Gupta. As you can guess, Musk himself disproved this theory and denied being Satoshi Nakamoto.
Craight Wright is yet another guess for the creator of Bitcoin. He is an Australian computer scientist. Interestingly enough, the man himself claims he is the creator. However, it is worth to note that many people refuse to believe he is the actual founder of the most popular cryptocurrency in the world. It is because when asked to publish a proof (which is the access to one of the earliest Bitcoin keys), he refused to do it.
No one can provide any evidence, even circumstantial in fact, for this particular idea. Nevertheless, there has been theories that creating Bitcoin could be beneficial for either fighting US dollars or to fund covert operations. Another idea is that Bitcoin is a great way thanks to which you can monitor all the financial transactions that occur on the Internet.
